The 73rd Counts Family Reunion was held on August 2, 2014, at the Breaks Interstate Park in Shelter #8. President Sue Counts presided and gave the welcome and a brief history of the reunion. The reunion opened with a prayer by Raymond Compton and everyone said the pledge of allegiance. Katie Sutherland led the singing of the traditional America the Beautiful.
Families introduced themselves. Gail Marney gave the treasurers report and showed a balance of $327.62.
Maxine Fuller was the oldest attendee and with the largest family of 11. Isaac Marney was the youngest at 1 year old (he beat his twin by 30 minutes). Bob Colley was the oldest veteran at 77 and was presented with a flag that flew over the capitol. Dorothy and Dick Brunson drove the furthest at 700 miles.
A special presentation, honoring Maxine, was done by her family and birthday cake was enjoyed by all.
Next years reunion will be at Sulphur Springs Church at Tiny, VA and it will combine with the Sutherland/Dye Reunion. This was changed from the original vote for the Breaks, by majority polling and requests conducted by, President Sue Counts and Vice President Patty Conner. It will be covered dish and begin at 10am. The site will rotate between the Breaks and Sulphur Springs Church at Tiny each year.
$126 was collected for the Reunion Fund. It was voted not contribute to the Counts Cemetery this year due to low Reunion collections.
About 50 people attended the reunion and enjoyed a wonderful meal of BBQ and hot dogs prepared by Charlsie and Mitch Jordan and Rick Marney. Brett Compton came and shared some family history and new publications. Special music by family members was enjoyed by all. (Sam Sutherland, Randy Miller and Shirley Allen)-
